BK Civil is committed to supplying quality services to the local community. We were recently engaged by the Toowoomba Region Council (TRC) to complete a number of landfill rehabilitation projects. One of these included the closure of the Brookstead Landfill. Located three kilometres west of the township, this site was first opened in 1955 and operated for 57 years before ceasing in 2017. It’s estimated that over 10,000 tonnes of waste was accepted at this facility during its lifespan. BK Civil was responsible for all works and activities required to rehabilitate the disused Brookstead landfill, providing equipment and qualified, experienced personnel to complete the project prior to the due date. Satisfying the Department of Environment & Science’s requirements for Landfill Closure and Post-closure Care was critical to the success of this project. The scope of works included: • Demolition and removal of existing chain mesh fence and gate • Re-profile / spread in-situ waste material and existing cover soil on site • Supply and spread and compact SMDD 90% final cover material • Supply and lay an organic layer • Supply & install perimeter fencing as specified in the closure plan, and • Site supervision and other site management activities, which included liaison with the Council’s environmental consultant and site surveyor.

BK Civil Group has an on-going commitment to growing the skill-set of our staff. “Finding talented people and supporting them in growing their skills strengthens the foundations of our business and expands our capabilities.” said Jack Alldridge, BK Civil General Manager. Saul joined the team as a qualified Auto Mechanic. His previous experience had largely involved work with light vehicles, and after joining BK Civil he was swiftly enrolled in a Certificate IV of Mechanical Engineering Heavy Diesel. Saul has since finished this qualification and is now dual qualified in Auto and Heavy Diesel Mechanical. Dave and Clay are also members of the workshop team who’ll soon be dual qualified. Dave’s experience as a qualified Panel Beater and Spray Painter has been an asset to the team, as has Clay’s experience as a qualified Boilermaker. BK Civil is currently supporting Dave and Clay through the process of completing the Certificate IV in Mechanical Engineering Heavy Diesel. Last year presented many challenges for communities and businesses globally. Recent statistics revealed by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development show that unemployment rates in Australia amongst those aged between 15-24 rose by almost 4% when compared to pre-pandemic quarterly results. During this time, BK Civil was able to provide two school-based apprenticeships to local teenagers Bob and Joe. Bob and Joe joined the workshop team late last year and are participating in training for the Certificate IV in Mechanical Engineering Heavy Diesel qualification whilst they finish their senior years at highschool. “They’ve both got excellent work ethics and display a keen willingness to learn. I have no doubt that they have the potential to become even more valuable members of the workshop team as they progress through their training” said Jack.

BK Civil Group is proud to announce that we are pre-qualified for works under Local Buy's BUS270 certification, which includes road, water, sewerage and civil works. Being pre-qualified with Local Buy reduces the risks, time and costs associated with the procurement process for our customers. Why is being a Local Buy supplier important to us? Councils and local government authorities are not legally required to use Local Buy’s services, however a contractual arrangement established by Local Buy enables councils and local government authorities to purchase a diverse range of goods and services from Local Buy suppliers without tendering. Being a Local Buy supplier means that our customers using Local Buy arrangements save significant time, money and are fully compliant with the Local Government Act 2009 and the Local Government Regulation 2012 in their procurement activities. In addition to meeting Local Buy's requirements, we continue to maintain third party accreditation in ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System, providing our customers with greater assurance of a project done well.
